Debut album from band centring on Brighton brethren
Alex and Tom White.
Resembling a beefed-up incarnation of Teenage Fanclub, complete with fuzzy
effects pedals and a bucket load of pop harmonies, The Electric Soft Parade are
one of the few young British bands to have successfully navigated the hype and
emerged with something genuinely promising. Influences are easily located but at
least the Brighton three-piece prove to be creative pilferers, lifting a pinch
of Ride here and a dose of Ash there for an intriguing debut. Things get off to
a powerful start with the Pixies-esque thrash of Start Again, an effect
underlined by the chirpy blast of Sleep Alone. Several deft gear changes help
keep up the momentum, making Holes In The Wall a dreamy pop album.
